We are renovating this beautiful 1930's farmhouse to have as our home away from home. And we are willing to share it with you guys.
The house is situated in Þykkvibær, a small village in the South of Iceland. It's a quiet area and only 10 minutes drive from the nearest town, Hella.
From Þykkvibær there is a great view of the surrounding mountains. Mount Hekla (Iceland most active volcano) to the north and Eyjafjallajökull to the east. To the south you can see the Westman Islands rise from the sea.
On the ground floor you find our favourite room in the house, the dining room. With heating in the floor and a homemade farmhouse-style dining table, which easily sits 12. Off the dining room is the kitchen, fully equipped and with a dishwasher. The living room and the master bedroom are situated on the first floor along with the bathroom. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and living room has a comfortable sofa bed that sleeps 2.
The second floor is a large open attic room with 3 single beds.
One of the reasons we bought this house is the surrounding garden. We grow trees and flowers and we're trying to grow some arctic vegetables. So if you are here during harvest season you are in luck.
And not to forget. There is a large patio facing south with a gas grill and a dining table and chairs.
