Gracious 1895 modern Victorian greystone 1.3 miles from the United Center, 3 miles from downtown Chicago & theater district, 1 mile to medical district. The spacious home offers 6 bedrooms & 4 baths making it perfect for family holidays. Hip bars & restaurants are about a mile in adjacent West Town & Tri-Taylor. Easy access to I-290. 2 train stations (Green & Blue) are 10 min walk. 2 bus stops are 3 min walk. Upscale grocery store within walking distance. FREE on-street parking. Quick Ubers. Downtown Chicago is a 10 min drive. Spectacular back deck and gazebo.
This house retains all its historic charm while providing luxurious modern comforts. 6 bedrooms, 4 full baths, 3300 square feet, 12-foot ceilings, 2 fully-equipped kitchens, 3 living areas, 3 dining areas, beautiful backyard with gazebo and seating for 6. The A/C system is new. The new tankless hot water heater provides continuous hot water to all 4 bathrooms as well as kitchens so larger groups can shower simultaneously without ever worrying about running out of hot water. The WIFI is state of the art INTERNET: 1.2 gig download, 50 mbps upload Comcast Xfinity service. (May be reduced on Wifi) with Orbi extenders to give WiFi throughout the property. Separate Nest smart thermostat controls on each level. Grab bars in 3 of the 4 bathrooms. 2 Roku streaming TVs. Alarm if you want it and security cameras are outside. Bed mattresses are premium brands and extremely comfortable. Each mattress is protected with bed bug covers. You get hotel quality linens and towels. Complementary hotel quality body wash, shampoo & conditioners. 2 High-end, front loading washers/dryers. Coffee and tea is provided. Plenty of free street parking on block. This house is designed for maximum comfort.

The property is located in an ethnically and economically diverse neighborhood. As a guest, we encourage you to exercise good judgement and a reasonable level of awareness/caution (reasonable caution does NOT mean paranoia.) whenever traveling. The neighborhood is experiencing strong positive economic development/revitalization given its proximity to downtown Chicago and its border with the affluent West Town neighborhood 4 blocks east. New listings in the area often carry a description akin to “hottest new investment area in Chicago”. To give you an idea of the safety of this block, consider that a police officer lives across the street, an attorney also lives across the street, one house over. An FBI agent lives a few houses down. There are other Airbnbs on both this street and the next one, also with emphatically positive reviews. A very large house is being built one house down from us with an approximate market value of between $800K and $1MM. Small homes on the block have sold for $350K. I have owned the house since 2011 and am there both during the day and late at night. Over 7 years of ownership I have never felt unsafe. We have just formed a block club and our first project is to plant 10 trees in the parkways down the block. I adore this neighborhood and all it offers and continue to enjoy watching its growth and positive development.

That said, walking to/from either blue or green line train station during the day is fine, but I would not advise for night travel. An uber ride from downtown is around $10 and with a group that might end up cheaper anyway than public transport. Ubers come quickly and you can use them even to go to the nearby grocery store (Pete’s Fresh Market) at 2333 W Madison Street Chicago.

Please feel free to say a quick hello to our neighbors if you run into them. You will find they are professional and neighborly and have a strong commitment to the block and the area. It’s the best way to immerse yourself in our city and its culture and we are also curious to learn all about other parts of the world too.

The upshot of this editorial is that you are safe on this block. While you may not be in the “best” neighborhood in Chicago you are enviably well located to the main tourist attractions in Chicago, the city’s principal business districts and several of the city’s many premier restaurant districts (Fulton Market, West Town, Bucktown, Greektown, Tri-Taylor, etc.) at a price point you will not get at similarly appointed homes in arguably “better” parts of the city. This is a fantastic, historic (built in 1895!) home in a fantastic part of the city which is finally realizing its potential.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention...a new $30 million food incubator "The Hatchery" is due to be completed in December 2018 providing 67,000 square feet of commercial kitchen space to entrepreneurs and innovators in the food service industry. The project is located less than a half-mile northwest at the intersection of Kedzie and Lake Streets. Check it out at ******** Very exciting stuff going on in this neighborhood! :-)
Car is the best way to get around but you can bike, take the Jackson Ave bus, the Madison Street bus, or the Blue Line train.

The nearest Jackson Ave bus stop is located at the intersection of Washtenaw Ave & Jackson Blvd (2 blocks)

The nearest Madison Street bus stop is at Madison and California (2 blocks)

The Blue Line “L” station on Western and Van Buren is about a 5-6 block walk.

The Green Line “L” station on California and Lake Streets is also a 10 min walk from the property.

The RTA/CTA information hotline is ‭********‬. They are open from 6AM-7PM and can provide point to point verbal public transport details.

If you bike, there is a Divvy bike rental station 6 blocks away on Western and Congress. If you bring your own bike do not leave it outside. Bring your bike inside the house.

Lyft and Uber remain convenient and cost effective alternatives to a rental car or public transport. (Also a good way to meet people). Rides to downtown Chicago should cost less than $10 per ride.

If you have a car, the house has no dedicated parking but street parking is plentiful.
Pete’s Fresh Market on Madison and Western (see attached photos) is a 3 min drive. The grocery store has a number of prepared food options from fresh sushi, to a hot bar, two salad bars, made to order tacos/sandwiches as well as a large section for wines, cheeses and fresh produce. 2333 W Madison Street Chicago.

Chicago is open for lunch daily from 11am to 3pm and is a 5-6 min drive. ********

Starting from the 2500 block W of Chicago Ave to the 1400 block of Chicago Ave are a plethora of amazing eateries and culinary experiences for you to explore from Homestead on the Roof to Beatnik to Heritage Restaurant and Caviar Bar. (The house is on the 2700 block west so this district is literally a 8 minute drive from where you are considering staying.)

Soho House on 115 Green Street is a 10 min drive. Chicago French Market at 131 N Clinton is a 10 min drive. Blackbird Restaurant 619 W Randolph is a 15 min drive. The Fulton Market District (also chock full of restaurants) is a 10-15 min drive.

There is a nominal fee extra guest charge to help us cover the cost of both extra consumables and extra laundry. If you do not provide an accurate count we are unable to properly price your stay to reflect additional these additional costs to us. Due to prior abuse, we have had to institute a policy of $250 per additional undeclared guest/visitor per night to discourage the "sneaking in" of additional guests/visitors not declared on the booking. Please, please, pretty please, just declare and pay for the actual number of guests who will be using the property so we do not have to charge you this. It is literally so easy and painless and not that much more money. We provide 2 bath towels and 2 hand towels per registered guest. Please make sure the total # of guests are accurately reflected in your booking so you receive the correct pricing at time of reservation based on what we will need to provide your group.

The three single beds are fold-up beds brought out for the 13th, 14th and 15th booked guests.

While we cannot guarantee early check-ins or late check-outs, you can make a request and we will note the request and inform you the day before if we can accommodate. There is a $25 fee per early check-in or late check-out up to 2 hours before/after check-in time, if we can accommodate. Any early check-ins or late check-outs longer than 2 hours are charged at a rate of $20 per hour. Thank you for understanding. Baggage storage fee is $5 per bag. Pack and play rental is $10 per night.

Please treat our home with the care you would treat your own property. For example, please don’t dispose non toilet paper items in the toilet. Please don’t stain our linens or towels. Please don’t cause neighbors to be disrupted. We have had this happen so much that we now fully ask ******** for reimbursement and ******** is not too happy with guests who result in them having to pay for a guest’s property damage.

This home has no pet policy. Please make travel arrangements accordingly.

The home has a no indoor smoking policy. This includes tobacco, marijuana, vapes or any other substance which has an odor. You are permitted to smoke outside of the home but we ask you do it in the back of the home rather than on the front porch. Outdoor ash trays are provided. If we have to treat for smoke smells there is a charge of $250.
