About Dallas Pride

With Dallas Pride, June begins with a blaze of color as the LGBTQ+ community of Dallas paints the city rainbow in a fashion like none other. The first weekend of June brings a weekend of friendship and harmony for the LGBTQ+ community in central Texas.

In 1972, the first pride parade hit the streets of Dallas with between 250 and 300 men and women gathered to show their pride through Downtown Dallas. The next official Dallas Gay Pride parade didn’t happen until June 1980. In 1983, the parade was moved from June to the third Sunday in September and renamed the Texas Freedom Parade. In 1991, it became the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade. In 2019, Dallas Pride officials decided to honor LGBTQ+ month by moving this pride events back to the month of June, which is the month that has been designated to honor the community and recognize the Stonewall Uprising.

Today, Dallas Gay Pride is one of the most widely celebrated and widely participated events for the LGBTQ+ community. Dallas Gay Pride begins with a day of music and celebration, and closes with the world-renowned Dallas Pride Parade, which paints the streets with fabulous floats and majestic marchers. It's an event you will surely want to be a part of.

Dallas is also home to the Dallas Black Pride, the Texas Latino Gay Pride and the QueerBomb Dallas Pride rally

Dallas Black Pride (also known as DBP or Dallas Southern Pride) is an annual five-day event to celebrate the growth of the black LGBT Community in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The event has been in existence since 1996. Annually, approximately 15,000 people participate in the planned pride events.

The Texas Latino Gay Pride event began in 2014 and is held annually every early October in the Oaklawn district.

Since 2014 QueerBomb Dallas organizes their own Pride rally, march and party on the last weekend in June.  The event is completely non corporate and community funded.

Program for Dallas Pride

For full details on Dallas Pride 2022, be sure to check out the official event program. Happy Pride!

Dallas Pride will commence its annual Pride Festival on June 1, 2019 at 11am with the Miller Lite Music Festival in the Park. 2019 will mark Dallas' first year of celebrating pride during LGBTQ+ month, as well as its first year in a new location! TEEN Pride will also take place on June 1 inside the main gates of the Miller Lite Music Festival in the Park, at the Centennial Building. This unique event offers a welcoming environment for teens between the ages of 13 to 19, and one where they can feel loved, supported, and valued. The Miller Lite Music Festival in the Park will also offer the Family Pride Zone where little ones can enjoy kid-friendly music and face painting.

The following day on June 2, the 36th annual Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade will begin at 2pm and end by 4pm. Because this is the first year the Dallas Pride Parade will be held in its new location, only the start and end times have been released at present. This parade presents fantastic floats, walking groups, and a beautiful display of color.

This year's event has a theme that will be similar to what will be seen at other pride events around the United States: Stonewall STRONG, Dallas PROUD. To commemorate the 50th anniversary since the Stonewall Riots in New York City, members of the LGBTQ+ community will remember how far they have come since the fifties. Because everything is bigger (and therefore better) in Texas, this is one festival you won't want to miss.

To celebrate pride in a truly Texan style, be sure to make Dallas a must-see destination for your summer calendars.
