Antwerp is Belgium's second biggest city and the second largest port in Europe. It’s the economic heart of Flanders, a capital for fashion and design and a very gay friendly destination in a very gay friendly country, Belgium.
City of Rubens and Brueghel, jewel of the Flemish architecture and world diamond capital, the city found a new life back in the 80s with the appearance of designers such as Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten and Dirk Bikkembergs. Antwerp has become the perfect destination for all fashion-lovers who will spend the day strolling from designer shops to designer shops along Nationalestraat, the ModeNatie or MoMu, the fashion museum.
The Central Station, almost looking like a flamboyant cathedral is worth a visit as is the beautiful square of the city center. If you like zoos, the Antwerp Zoo is one of the oldest in the world. Do not miss a walk in the Zuid neighborhood or go for a ride to the MAS, the newest museum in the city.
Antwerp is also a gay-friendly haven in Europe, with a large LGBT community and many gay venues. Some of them, such as Cargo Club (former Red & Blue gay club) or the Boots, are famous throughout Europe. Antwerp also hosts H.I.M, an iconic gay circuit party.
Among major gay events of the year, the Belgian Leatherpride is held in January, and Antwerp pride, is usually held in late July or in August. As 2013 European Capital of Sports, Antwerp hosted the World Outgames, one of the biggest gay sporting events. The city had already hosted the Eurogames in 2007.
