What the apartment lacks in size it makes up for in amenities —it is a 10 minute walk away from the Blue Line Station, a grocery store is half a block away and downtown Chicago is a 12 minute drive. The apt comes with an attached one car garage. A few short blocks away is Fitzgerald’s, a Chicago jazz and music destination, and an awesome array of culinary delights and pubs. Super comfy beds!
You have your run of the entire small 2 bed apt. However, the courtyard is not for guests to use as it is exclusively leased to the preschool. Because children are around we ask that you not smoke outside the house either.
Wifi is 1 gig with Orbi WiFi extenders. Should be fast, reliable and present throughout the house.
Mattresses are covered with bed bug protectors.

The beds have fresh, clean and crisp linens and the bathroom is stocked with fresh towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. We also include 1 hair dryer. The kitchen is fully loaded with appliances and cooking utensils. An iron/ironing board are also in the unit for your convenience.

BEDS: Please note we have 1 queen bed and 1 full bed. To supplement, we can provide 2 folding single beds. The couch can also serve as a bed. You need to request the extra beds--and there might be a charge for them. Please don't expect that they will be available for parties of under 4 guests.

A grocery store is 1/2 block away. Safe 10 minute walk from Blue Line. Lots of restaurants and bars east and west on Roosevelt Road including Bodhi Thai Bistro, Capri, Autre Monde, Salerno’s Pizza and Pasta, Buona Beef, Pete’s Red Hot’s. Live music venues within walking distance include Fitzgerald’s, Wire, and Friendly’s. The Harrison Street Arts District is a 13 minute walk past train station. There you will find medium priced restaurants (Trattoria 225, Mora Asian Kitchen, District Kitchen & Tap aka DKT), cafes (Buzz Cafe and Eastgate Cafe/Bistro), art galleries, artisanal bakeries, yoga studios. Downtown Oak Park is about a 15 minute drive and it is a really pleasant place to stroll with speciality shops, restaurants and bars. Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio is a 15 min drive. Ubers are easy and quick to come.
Within Oak Park, a car or bike is probably the best. For Chicago it would be public transport or a car (unless you are very athletic). Uber and Lyft are also cost effective alternatives to public transport.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT OPTIONS
OPTION 1: Blue Line Austin Blvd train stop is a 10 minute walk. Turn L outside building and walk to main street. That is Roosevelt Road. Turn L and walk 3 blocks to Lombard Ave (passing Highland and Harvey streets). Turn L on Lombard Ave. Walk 3 blocks north (passing Fillmore, Harvard and Garfield streets). Once you pass Garfield, the Lombard Ave exit/entrance to Blue Line Austin Blvd stop is on your right hand side. Please note that if you have not purchased your Ventra card yet, there is no ticket dispensing kiosk at this entrance/exit. Instead of crossing Garfield street to get to station, turn R on Garfield and walk 4 blocks (passing Taylor, Lyman and Humphrey streets) until you reach Austin Blvd. Turn L on Austin and entrance/exit is on your L-hand side. Purchase tickets from kiosk there. Next time you can use the Lombard Street entrance/exit.
OPTION 2-Turn L outside building and walk to street (Roosevelt Road). Cross street. Turn L and walk 1-block to Highland Ave. There is a bus stop on Highland and Roosevelt Road. Take the # 305 bus east to Central Ave. Change at Central Ave to Roosevelt Road Bus Line # ___. This bus leads you into downtown Chicago. You can get off at the Michigan Ave & Roosevelt Road stop and you are in downtown Chicago.
The RTA/CTA information hotline is ********. They are open from 6AM-7PM and can provide point to point verbal public transport details.
There is an upstairs unit which is also available on ********. If you have a slightly larger party you could rent both the upstairs 1 bed/1 bath apt and the ground floor 2 bed/1.5 bath apt. No smoking anywhere outside. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan and room darkening curtains for the travel worn or jet lagged traveller.
For the 5th and 6th guest, sleeping accommodations are a comfortable couch and two fold-up single beds. The fold-up beds are only brought out for the 6th registered guest. Please accurately indicate the number of guests on the reservation. We do charge for xtra guests to reflect the xtra labor costs involved in laundering so if you do not provide an accurate count it is difficult to properly price to reflect laundry and consumables costs. Because of previous guests "sneaking in" additional guests/visitors, we now have instituted a policy of $250 per unauthorized guest/visitor per night if you do not declare (and pay for) the actual amount of guests who will using the property. Please accurately indicate the number of guests/visitors prior to check in to avoid the surcharge. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
While we cannot guarantee early check-ins or late check-outs, you can make a request and we will note the request and inform you the day before if we can accommodate. There is a $25 fee per early check-in or late check-out up to 3 hours before/after check-in time, if we can accommodate. Any early check-ins or late check-outs longer than 3 hours are charged at a rate of $10 per hour. Thank you for understanding. Baggage storage fee is $5 per bag. Pack and play rental is $10 per night.
Some guests have complained about noise from the unit above when a family with children is booked upstairs. If you are particularly sensitive to hearing footsteps above you, please note that this is an older house which was built before it was standard practice to put insulation between floors to dampen noise.
