Rogers Park Social, Loyola Beach and natural dune area, Jackhammer and Touché, 20+ LGBTQ bars and restaurants, Andersonville and Uptown, Northwestern University, Bahá’í Temple, Wrigley Field and North Halsted
Transit:
Blocks from the Red Line (Loyola and Morse stations), as well as the 22, 147, and 155 buses make it easy to travel downtown (40min train), to North Halsted and gay nightlife (25min train), west to fun spots like Little India and Andersonville (20min bus), or north to Evanston, Northwestern University, and the Bahá’í Temple (40min train). If you’re a biker, there are multiple Divvy Bike Stations within a block for easy bike rental to help you enjoy the city even more!
Nightlife:
From banging dance spots to quaint neighborhood bars, the gay nightlife scene in north Chicago is full of options. Easy redline and bus access makes trips to North Halsted simple. Andersonville also offers plenty of options from arcade bars, dive bars with gogo dancers, and lots of delicious food. Within stumbling distance of my apartment are fun spots like Rogers Park Social for a great nightcap.
Beach:
At the end of the block across Sheridan Road lies the exceedingly quaint and private-feeling Rogers Park beaches and dune area. Hollywood Beach (gay beach) is a short bus ride south on the 147, or a fun 20 min bikeride if you're looking for that bombastic bums-out beach day.
Daytime:
There are some cute shops in Rogers Park to get you started like Armadillos Pillow Bookstore and Malliway Bros. Spells, Charms and Potions. Great daytime bumming in Andersonville (20min bus, 15mins bike) with plenty of vintage shops, thrift stores, and fun knick-knacks. For that big Chicago shopping, Magnificent Mile is a 40min train ride away.
Off-Season:
You might hear people complain about the weather in Chicago outside of summer. I’m here to tell you, they are all mistaken. The views from my apartment add charm to the cold and dramatic weather. Plus, you’re a block from the beach, it’s so cool to see the lake all frozen and magical. Trust me!
